A corrupted PDF is a file whose internal data structure has been damaged to the point that standard PDF readers refuse to open it, display blank pages, or show garbled characters. The PDF format stores content in a highly structured series of objects, cross-reference tables, and page-content streams — any damage to these components can render the file unreadable.
Corruption does not necessarily mean the actual page content is lost. In many cases, the visible text and images are intact but the "map" telling your PDF reader where to find them is broken. Our repair tool reconstructs this map and recovers the file.
PDF files can become corrupted for many reasons:
Our server applies a cascade of four repair strategies, starting with the highest-fidelity method and automatically falling back to increasingly aggressive techniques if earlier stages fail:
The first stage to produce a valid, non-empty PDF is used as the final result. You always receive the highest-quality repair that is possible for your specific file.
Our multi-engine approach repairs the vast majority of corrupted files. However, if the actual content data (page streams, images, text glyphs) has been physically overwritten or deleted, no repair tool — online or offline — can recover that data. In those cases you will receive the best possible partial recovery.
When qpdf or GhostScript repair succeeds, the PDF is virtually identical to the original — all vector graphics, fonts, and colours are preserved at full quality. If the rasterization fallback is used, the result is a high-resolution image-based PDF, which is visually accurate but non-selectable text.

All uploads use HTTPS encryption. Your file is stored in a private temporary folder accessible only during your session and is permanently and automatically deleted from our server immediately after you download the repaired result.
You can upload PDFs up to 20 MB. If your file is larger, try compressing it first using our Compress PDF tool, then run the repair.
No installation needed. The entire process runs in your browser and on our server. Works on Windows, Mac, Linux, iOS, and Android.
